During a guest appearance on Gregg Gregory’s The Teamwork Advantage podcast, Dr. Quintin Shepherd takes the audience back to his first job in K-12education: teaching music.
“When you first start as a young leader—in my case, as a superintendent at 27 years old—you tend to play by the rules as they’re handed down to you because you don’t know how else to play,” he recalled. “I’d been taught what a superintendent was supposed to do in a very classical style of leadership that’s dependent on hierarchies and power structures and so on. But I didn’t feel like I was doing it the way I wanted to do it.”
Quintin explained his subsequent journey, which led to his writing the book “The Secret to Transformational Leadership,” published earlier this year.
The Teamwork Advantage podcast is designed for professionals and experts in teamwork, leadership, and culture. In this podcast episode—entitled “Complex or Complicated, What Problems Are You Solving?”—Quintin returns to one of the key themes of the book and explains in detail how compassionate language can shape an entire community’s mindset about complicated problems.
